Interested in actually seeing some of our beautiful Shoals Area gardens? NOW is the time! A number of our area gardeners welcome visitors to their gardens and this year we are going to let you know when the blooms are at their best and invite you to visit. Just check in here periodically to see whose garden is peaking and when you are invited to visit. Check frequently as additions will be made as the calls come in.
Here is a list of gardens we hope to have open for your visit in the next several months with the expected time of invitation and plant highlights. Specific dates for Open Gardens will appear here as we near the date and will be contingent on such variables such as garden peak, garden owner's situation, etc.
April Saturdays - Harry Wallace - Peaking: Aril to mid-May; GARDEN HIGHLIGHTS: Native azaleas and trees. More including over 200 varities of hosta for sale ; GARDEN HIGHLIGHTS: Since the weather is so unpredictable, rather than trying to choose a particular weekend, we are designating the Saturdays of April as our Open Garden. We are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays year round. DIRECTIONS: Take Cox Creek Parkway west (Hwy.133 past Southern Family Market/CVS Pharmacy (Hwy. 157) to County Road 41. Turn right. Go about two miles past the Forks of Cypress ruins to the first driveway on right. Come to end of drive. 766-0537
April 12/13 - Fuzzy Perritt - Peaking: April, first week of May; GARDEN HIGHLIGHTSs:Native azaleas, hydrangeas, ferns, and more ; OPEN GARDEN is on Saturday, April 12th all day, Sunday April 13th from 1:00 until 5:00 or anytime by calling 740-1463. DIRECTIONS: Go to Google Maps to get there.
April 20 - Charles Moore - Peaking: Mid-April to end of April; GARDEN HIGHLIGHTS: Waterfall, azaleas; OPEN GARDEN is April 20, 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. DIRECTIONS: Go to Google Maps to get there.
April 19/20 - Irene Fowler -Peaking: Mid-April to Mid-May; Garden Highlights: Late Azaleas, Hosta, Rhodies, Ferns, Roses; OPEN GARDEN is Saturday, April 19 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Sunday, April 20 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. DIRECTIONS: Address 106 Gillis Drive, Lexington. From US72/US43 intersection, turn north onto US43. Travel 6.5 miles to the Green Hill Community. Turn right (east) on County Road 47. Travel 2.7 miles and turn right (east) on County Road 33. Proceed 1.0 mile and turn left on County Road 174. Travel 0.6 mile and turn left on Gillis Drive (dead end road). First residence on right.
April/May - Leon Perry - Peaking: Mid-April through June; GARDEN HIGHLIGHTS: Azaleas!!!!.; OPEN GARDEN is anytime you wish to visit. Peaks will occur on a continuing basis from mid April through May. DIRECTIONS: Directions to Leon Perry’s, 104 Lakeview Shores, 381-4568: go east on River Road in Muscle Shoals, watch for Muscle Shoals Baptist Church on your left, turn left at the next road, go to dead end and take a right, go past Stinson Hollow Marine and continue until you see a newly paved road with new curbs and turn left, follow this for some distance, as the road bends right and starts up a small hill - Leon’s house is on that corner. Plenty of color on the road side will let you know that you have arrived.
May 5 to 11 - Phillip Oliver - Peaking: Mid-April to mid-May; GARDEN HIGHLIGHTS: roses (mainly older varieties), Japanese maples, dogwoods, flowering shrubs (viburnums, spirea) and perennials ; OPEN GARDEN is May 5 - 11. Call 760-8219. DIRECTIONS: Go to Google Maps to get there.
May/June, June 1 to 7 - John & Lynn Ingwersen - Peaking: Mid-May to early June; GARDEN HIGHLIGHTS: Roses, Daylillies, etc.; OPEN GARDEN is anytime (call 757-5325 or just come by). Peaks of roses begin mid-May and continue on about a monthly recurrence. We will be cleaned up for our "official" Open Gardens June 1 through 7 and we will be in the gardens all day on the 7th.
